Welcome to 2AGREE ~ the site for Soul-Based Mediation

Dear Reader ~

On this website I have assembled resources to assist you during this difficult time of decision-making in your life. There are many issues that demand that we reconcile our desires and beliefs with another person. This can be challenging, to say the least! Having a mediator may make a tremendous difference in the ease and speed with which you can arrive at new and creative solutions to what seemed to be impenetrable problems. This is the magic of mediation.

I can be of assistance to you if you are struggling with any of these issues:

  • pre-marital and marital conflicts involving spiritual and ethical questions

  • separation

  • divorce

  • post-divorce problems

  • issues around religion or inter-faith choices

  • moral and ethical dilemmas

  • family decisions around children and religion

  • issues surrounding death and grieving

[I use the word marital to mean any two people living together as intimate companions, whether or not you are legally married, this includes same-sex unions.]

If any of these issues pertain to you, Soul-Based Mediation may be able to help you work through your problems and find renewed capacity for communication and cooperation with your significant other or with a former spouse.

If you are here because you are contemplating divorce, or are in the process of divorcing, you will find articles and links that cover all facets of the procedure. If you are here because you’re not sure if your marriage is over or not, please read the section called: Seven Questions to Ask.

My Background

I received a graduate degree from the University of Chicago Divinity School (MA ’91) with an emphasis on Ethics and then went on to get my ministerial training at the Unitarian-Universalist seminary (M Div ’95). I have a doctorate from Chicago Theological Seminary (D Min’04) and am ordained through the Humanist Society of Friends. I have taught at Mundelein College and at the Humanist Institute in New York. For many years I worked as a consultant with the Joseph Campbell Foundation (Campbell was a personal friend of my family) and traveled around the world meeting with the global associates who were finding Campbell’s work in mythology to be life transformative.

In my role as International OutReach Director for the Foundation, I collaborated with the Council for a Parliament of the Worlds Religions and learned a tremendous amount about interfaith dialogue during the twelve years I was involved. I have been a member of Spiritual Directors International for many years and do spiritual guidance and life coaching with individuals. More recently, I trained as a divorce mediator at Northwestern University and am a member of the Association for Conflict Resolution.

I become a Minister-Mediator after 14 years of working with couples at the beginning of their marriages (see www.revreb.com).  After helping over six hundred couples create meaningful ceremonies for getting into marriage, I had the opportunity to design a Ritual of Divorce with my colleague, Brian Muldoon (author, The Heart of Conflict.) The extraordinary power of that ritual on the participants altered my views on divorce and marriage! I began to understand the soul dimension of relationships in a whole new light. I trained as a mediator and have begun to work with couples in a way that combines practical concerns with the spiritual path.

In my personal life, I have been through two marriages and two divorces, one contentious and difficult, the other amicable. It has been a huge blessing to finally be on good terms with both my ex-spouses and to know the sweet joy of forgiving and being forgiven. I also went through the sad loss of a child in childbirth and understand firsthand the stress this can create in a relationship. At the ripe old age of fifty, I am happily living with my true life companion and want to reassure anyone who may be in doubt, that genuine joy is always a possibility!

If the idea of Soul-Based Mediation appeals to you, I encourage you to read through the articles on this website and explore more fully how the process might address your needs. Then give me a call and I’ll help explain any of the details that might still be unclear. There is no charge for phone consultation.

Below are the topics covered on this website in the order that might make sense to someone just starting to consider mediation. Feel free to click through to any of these links, or contact me via phone or email.

I wish you courage and compassion during this challenging time ~
